News    |    England Lift World Cup in Charity Football Match

27/05/2010

IT specialist Blue Chip facilitated a hotly contested charity football match at the home of AFC Bournemouth between ‘England’ and ‘Brazil’ which saw Jimmy Glass, Aaron Skelton, Russell Beardsmore, Marcus Browning, Stuart Douglas, John Bailey and Matty Holmes, team up with some of the south’s leading business directors, raising funds to send volunteers to Africa.

Blue Chip Managing Director, and Brazil player, Richard Cook, said: “The match was great fun, with the final score at ‘England’ 5, ‘Brazil’ 1. Goals for England from Stuart Douglas, who scored twice, Nathan Riddell, Chris Sawkins, and an inadvertent own goal from Brazil’s John Bailey, made it look like a 5-0 defeat, but Brazil’s perseverance paid off with a goal in the 82nd minute”.

Richard continues: “So far we have raised £5,000 through the football match, the generosity of businesses who very kindly donated items for the post match charity auction and through match sponsorship by HAGS Play and Dell. We are extremely grateful to everyone who took part and supported the event, but especially grateful to the teams. Everyone has made a valuable contribution to the very worthwhile cause of sending four young people from the 521 Youth Club to Tanzania to work with the not-for-profit organisation, Light In Africa, on one of their volunteer-dependent projects building an orphanage.“

Crowds turned out to watch the match, which saw company directors from Blue Chip, Fowler Solicitors, Elite Teamwear, Ceuta Healthcare, Astute, New Forest Instruments, Specialised Products Ltd, Northbank Vehicles, Colten Developments Ltd, Crescent Motorcycles, Oak, Letchers Solicitors, Dell and HAGS Play taking to the pitch alongside the professionals, with The Fire presenter, Dave Taylor joining them.

‘Professional of the Match’ was awarded to Jimmy Glass, ‘Businessman of the Match’ went to Anthony Tilley of Elite Teamwear and ‘Goal of the Match’ went to Nathan Riddell.

Light in Africa programs care for sick, abandoned and handicapped children, as well as other unsupported people in Africa. The monies raised from the football match will enable the volunteers from the Youth Club to visit a Tanzanian orphanage in July and work towards building a £15,000 accommodation block.
