VMware View 5: Bringing New Possibilities to the World of VDI

29th November 2011

Let’s be honest for a second, VMware View was a late-comer to the world of VDI. Most of us already have Citrix entrenched, and a set of skills that means that adoption of another product seems counter-productive – Until now that is. With massively improved performance, supported 3d graphics, CPU optimization and lossless codec introductions, it’s a huge step forward, and a new benchmark in what VDE’s are capable of.

I’ve had the opportunity to test this in conjunction with Wyse’s new P20, which offers out of the box PcoIP connection to your VMware View Environment. Impressed doesn’t begin to cover it. For those who aren’t aware, PCoIP is a relatively new technology that runs all processing and computing in the ‘data centre’ environment, transmitting only the pixels to the end user, meaning that the experience for everyone from basic to power users is seamless. The P20 is one of the easiest to administer and configure thin clients I’ve ever been fortunate enough to test, with Setup on a VMware View environment running PCoIP as simple as plugging the box in, and connecting the screen. That’s it. The client will then auto-configure, connect to the desktop, and present the user with login credentials request. Huge, complicated roll outs of new technology will be a thing of the past. The Wyse P20 also blurs the line with FAT clients machines, with multiple display support, multimedia playback, HD audio and four USB peripheral ports.

I realise the above sounds like another load of marketing, but book a complimentary demo with Blue Chip and see just why we’re as excited as we are. Contact: ict@bluechip.uk.com or call 0845 034 7222.

Trust me,  it’s nothing compared with how excited the team seem to be, watch the video here.
