REQUIREMENT: WAN INFRASTRUCTURE AND SECURITY
Enham approached Blue Chip to manage and develop its IT infrastructure. An integral part of the service was to ensure that the disaster recovery and security programme could meet the requirements of the charity's future strategy.
>> The Client
Enham helps disabled and disadvantaged people across eight counties in the South of England. Since 1919, they have helped over 250,000 people to gain independence and lead more fulfilling lives, providing work, living, learning and training choices.
Enham's proud heritage is based on the rehabilitation of disabled ex-Servicemen returning from World War I. Today they work with a wide range of people. The range of services provide the tools for people to take control of their lives and gain independence, releasing potential and enabling them to achieve far more than they ever thought possible.
Enham currently operates from 7 sites across the South of England. Like all organisations Enham needs to share their information across these sites securely - keeping information confidential; stopping malicious activity that can threaten the important work they do; and having all information available when required.
>> Solution
To meet Enham's security needs and expansion strategy, Blue Chip implemented a resilient WAN architecture across the sites based on Fortinet's award winning FortiGate Unified Threat Management (UTM) devices.
At the main administration office in Andover two FortiGate 200A devices have been deployed in High Availability (HA) mode in different buildings on the site. One device manages a leased line and the other a bonded ADSL connection with diverse routes to the internet. The two FortiGates are clustered with two fibre connections running between them so that should either WAN connection fail the traffic is routed across the fibre to the other device for all LAN and internet services. In addition to the HA configuration, these devices provide Intrusion Prevention Services, anti-virus scanning of all HTTP traffic and firewalling services.
At the remote sites smaller FortiGates have been deployed to provide secure IPSec VPN connections back to Andover with failover capability between the two sites at Andover. These appliances run local Anti Virus scanning, firewall and IPS services with web filtering where appropriate.
>> Success and Company Benefit
The success of this solution is that the network is now fault tolerant with diverse routes to the internet and failover VPNs with full security scanning of all inbound and outbound traffic that complements the incumbent virus scanning managed service.
Mark Harley, Enham's IT Service Manager comments "the FortiGate solution is easy to manage and as new sites are launched they can be integrated securely into the Enham WAN infrastructure"
