Client: Mavinwood Plc

REQUIREMENT : CENTRALISED IT

Mavinwood looked to ICT specialist Blue Chip to integrate the IT systems of four of its operating companies, in a bid to leverage improved economies of scale, manageability and deliver an enterprise-wide IT strategy to support the business.

>> The Client

Mavinwood is an AIM quoted company that is pursuing a Buy & Build strategy in Support Services. The two areas that Mavinwood is specifically focussed on are document handling and emergency services & insured repair.

Within the group, the companies Ansa, Peter Cox, Independent Inspections and Mono Services, which are spread across 24 sites, were selected for IT integration. The existing infrastructure would not support the level of integration required from the Mavinwood management team, therefore, it was decided that a new, centralised infrastructure would be implemented.

>> Solution

The Blue Chip Solution was focused upon the centralisation of data and services into a primary data centre with all locations of the business able to access this Service Hub over an MPLS network.

To achieve this, a farm of ten Citrix XenApp™ 4.5 servers was implemented, delivering a published desktop to the user base. The cluster currently supports over 200 users and by the completion of the project in 2009 will support 500 users across 14 servers. The farm is able to withstand failure of any components to guarantee service uptime and business continuity.

The users access all critical business applications, including Exchange 2007, file shares and their ERP solution, via the XenApp desktop. The use of Citrix® technology enables the users to access the information they require from any location and ensures quality of service from the Service Hub to the offices.

All critical data is stored on a highly resilient EMC CLARiiON Storage Area Network (SAN) and is replicated to provide a robust business continuity programme.

>> Success and Company Benefit

The transformation project is ongoing and is expected to be completed early 2009.

By centralising the IT and delivering applications via XenApp within the four operating companies, Mavinwood has been able to reduce the costs associated with managing IT across disparate locations.

To succeed with a buy and build strategy, such as Mavinwood, fast integration is essential. Therefore, having an IT infrastructure that is agile means new businesses can be brought online and integrated into the business quickly at a reduced cost. By implementing a Citrix® solution Blue Chip has delivered a flexible, robust and scalable solution that meets these requirements.
