Polyseam approached leading virtualisation specialist Blue Chip to help them address their business continuity issues and to implement the latest Microsoft Server technologies to support their manufacturing resource planning (123MRP) system.

With two locations in Huddersfield, Polyseam manufactures a wide range of high quality sealants, fillers and adhesives for a variety of applications geared to own-brand private label clients.
Polyseams' existing IT system was unable to support the latest version of the MRP application, which is a key component in the business. Supported by the fact that the infrastructures' ability to scale and accommodate business change was limited, Polyseam deemed it as essential to invest in their IT infrastructure.
>> Solution
Blue Chip designed and implemented a VMware virtual server infrastructure, with an EMC Storage Area Network (SAN) and the latest Microsoft technologies; Windows Server 2008, Exchange Server 2007, ISA Server 2006 and SQL Server 2005.
Using VMware VI3, Polyseam now has the ability to respond to business interruption quickly, cost effectively and without human intervention. This means that should server hardware fail, critical services such as 123MRP continue to perform, which is of the utmost importance to Polyseam's manufacturing business.
The solution was designed with system redundancy built in at every level (application, server and data) to ensure that all elements are protected from failure. By utilising both their Huddersfield based locations, Polyseam now has the capability to cope with the loss of either site to continue production.

Through the implementation of virtualisation technology, the business has reduced its operational risk ensuring that in the case of failure, a loss of productivity is minimised.
Following the success of this project Blue Chip is now providing Polyseam with on-going technical support.
