Bournemouth and Poole Primary Care Trust was established on 1st October 2006 and employs 1200 people.

Blue Chip designed a VMware core infrastructure with a Storage Area Network (SAN) to provide Bournemouth and Poole PCT with a platform that is highly resilient and expandable.

Furthermore two Fortigate Unified Threat Management Firewalls in high availability mode were deployed to provide secure connections to WAN services and Internet and provide services such as Antivirus, Antispam, Web Content Filtering and Intrusion Prevention.

The solution, built on a VMware platform provides The PCT with a truly resilient infrastructure.

The solution enables a number of servers to run from one physical server, decreasing the requirement for hardware and therefore saving businesses office space and money. Furthermore, the running costs of the servers are also lowered in terms of the power and cooling requirement.

Additional benefits of virtualised technology include easy manipulation, which has enabled PCT to apply their service packs at anytime, with no risk.

Dorset PCT are continuing to work with Blue Chip in 2008 on a large project consisting of the merger of the IT systems for Bournemouth & Poole Primary Care Trust and Dorset PCT.
